Social Scene – save the dates

We have some exciting virtual events coming up in the autumn. More details to follow, but for now put the dates in your diary as both events will be free of charge as the first to sign up will be successful.

Q&A with Tennis Legend Boris Becker, Thursday 15th October (evening) (changed from Wednesday 14th October)

Boris is the German former world No. 1 and memorably won the first of his six major singles titles at Wimbledon at the age of 17 in 1985. Boris has been a Member of Roehampton Club for a number of years and we are delighted that he has agreed to talk to Members about his illustrious career on court, his coaching of multi grand slam champion Novak Djokovic, his new role heading up the German national team and the recent US and French Open results.  He will also answer questions on the evening so if you can submit some beforehand, we will take those first.

Talk and Q&A with C4 Europe Editor and Presenter Matt Frei, Friday 20th November (evening)

Hear Channel 4’s Europe Editor and former Washington Correspondent Matt Frei talk about the results and ramifications of the US Presidential election on 3rd November.  Will it be Trump or Biden?  Matt and his family are Club Members.  Matt will also give his views on Russia’s increasing influence in world affairs and the UK Government’s performance this year.  Matt’s talks to Members are always entertaining and revealing.  He will take questions on the evening with priority given to any submitted beforehand.

Virtual wine tasting with wine expert Julie Jackson, Friday 30th October 6.30pm – 7.30pm

Julie Jackson, MD of Wimbledon wine merchants Jackson Nugent Vintners Ltd, will be leading a live tutored tasting for Members by Zoom on Friday 30th October.  This fun and informative event will highlight different styles and grape varieties from around the world via a tasting pack of six high-quality wines delivered to your home in half-bottles (375ml).  This is a free event in that you will only be paying for the cost of the wines and delivery.  More details to follow.

Food and Beverage Operation from Monday 7th September

With the Clubhouse getting busier and the weather getting cooler, from Monday 7th September it will no longer be possible to book tables on the Terrace. Instead this area will be for walk-ins and drinks only. If you wish to dine, it will be necessary to reserve a table in the Piano Bar. You may do this via the Members’ website (login) or by calling Reception on 020 8480 4200. We will continue to offer weekly specials and a roast lunch option on Sundays. Open Midday to 10pm (last orders for food 7.30pm).

Please note that if the website shows ‘no bookings’ on a particular date, this means that the rooms are in use and the restaurant is closed.

The Club Café will resume to it’s usual opening hours 8am – 6.30pm (last orders 6.15pm), weekends and bank holidays 8am – 6pm (last orders 5.45pm) with a full Children’s Menu. We anticipate that this area will be busy with Junior swimming and tennis lessons resuming, so booking a table is essential in the afternoons and at weekends.

The Piazza Pop Up remains popular and will be in situ until the end of October when it will close for the winter. The Juice Bar will remain closed for the time being.

Roehampton Club Gin

We are pleased to tell you that our special offer of £35 per bottle has been extended until the end of September. Available to purchase from the Piazza Pop up.

Spy School, 17th to 21st August

This year again for a week in August, many of our Junior Members enjoyed a range of fun activities and training at our annual Spy School. With codebreaking, laser maze training, fencing, archery and crime scene investigating, the children have learned a whole new set of skills. We now have a great team of spies, keeping us safe at the Club!
