Snooker Blog

I am pleased to declare the 2023-4 Snooker season over, with all competitions played roughly on time. The prize winners and finalists are listed below. Congratulations to all involved and thank you to all participants for your enthusiasm in playing in the leagues and knockouts.

Alex Rose won the scratch knockout for the fifth time in a close final against Scott Stanley, and as usual he scored the most high breaks. Well done to Pippa Walker for winning the Roberta Luxton Trophy for a second time in a row, and third time overall. The ladies’ competition was played as a round robin and was very competitive.

I was lucky enough to win both handicap competitions this season in finals against Greg Whitaker and Pradip Patel.

Pradip Patel had the highest aggregate points over the three leagues this season, just one point ahead of Iain Welsh over the same number of frames. The aggregate winner of League 1 now has a place on the boards, so well done to Pradip.

We have not been quite as successful in the inter club matches as last season, but we did make it to the semi finals of the team competition and some of us reached the latter stages of the singles equivalent.

My thanks to all those that played in teams including Pradip Patel who played one match on one leg following a serious injury.

We have not had many friendlies except for our annual match against RAC Woodcote Park. A second table would help attract more players to friendly matches.

Thanks to Alun Hughes for organising coaching with the increasingly well ranked Martin O’Donnell. We hope to invite Martin back to the club again sometime in the autumn.

The one summer tournament, the Roehampton Shield (Summer Handicap KO), will start soon but otherwise leagues will start again in September. Please contact me on the email address below if you would like to join the leagues or any other competitions.

The section is growing all the time and we look forward to the much needed and anticipated second table that is part of the Club’s development plan.

Have an enjoyable summer.
