Snooker Blog

After the disruption of the past few years, I am pleased to declare the 2021-22 snooker season over, with all competitions played on time. The prize winners and finalists are listed below. Congratulations to all involved and thank you to all participants for your enthusiasm in playing in the leagues and knockouts.

Alex Rose has won the award for break building for several years in a row, and he is pictured here being presented with this year’s beautiful trophy (also pictured) by long time snooker section stalwart, Danny Gesua, who also put together some fine breaks this year. Alex also won the scratch knockout for the fourth time.

It is good to see Craig de Silva back on form, winning both handicap knockouts, and the last league of the season. Well done to Libby Dand for winning the Roberta Luxton Trophy for a second time, but sadly she was unavailable to receive the trophy in person. I hope to be able to celebrate with her another time.

We have struggled a little to arrange inter-club fixtures this year, but we did manage friendlies against Hurlingham and RAC Woodcote Park. I was delighted to announce that we won the delayed 2020 London Clubs Competition last October in a final against the East India Club, but sadly, the same team dispatched us in the first round of the 2021 competition just a couple of months later. Hopefully we will do better in the 2022 tournament. However, Alex Rose reached the final of the relatively new individual players’ version of that competition. He lost to a player who is fast becoming his main rival from the East India Club. That competition is due to start again shortly, so look out for invitations from the organisers. If you have not played in it before and would like to, please let me know by email at anowell@harrodian.com

The one summer tournament, the Roehampton Shield (Summer Handicap KO), has started; good luck everyone. Please try to meet those deadlines on time. Leagues will start again in September. Please contact me on the email address above if you would like to join the leagues or any other competitions. The section is growing all the time and we look forward to the much needed and anticipated second table that is part of the Club’s development plan.

Have an enjoyable summer.
