We are halfway through the season and competitions are proceeding well.

I was lucky to win the Roehampton Shield, the summer handicap knockout. Don’t worry, the Handicap Committee are investigating. The winter handicap knockout, James Selby Trophy, is about to be decided, I face Pradip Patel in the final.

The second league session of the year has just finished and I’m delighted to see that most matches have been played. I urge players to organise games as soon as the leagues are posted so that deadlines are not missed. The winner of the top league can now enjoy having their name on the board, so all to play for. The Atherton Collins scratch knockout has just started, good luck to all those involved.

In February we were visited by our guest professional, Martin O’Donnell, who coached several Members in private sessions.

Martin managed to get to the final of the Welsh Open this year, beating World Champion, Luca Brecel on the way. He is pictured with incumbent Club champion, Pradip Patel.

My thanks to Alun Hughes for arranging the sessions, and of course to Martin for his invaluable advice. We hope to host Martin again soon.

The draw for the London Clubs competition has just been announced. Having won it last year we have a bye. I hope to report on a successful campaign later in the year. Meanwhile, several of our Members have joined the individual competition which has also just started.

The table has just been re-clothed and is playing beautifully. It is available to all Members and all the equipment is ready and waiting. If you haven’t relaxed over a frame and a pint then you haven’t really joined the Club yet. Book the room now and get potting.
