Grail and AGM

The seniors are coming to the end of our competitive year with our AGM on Wednesday 25th October preceded by the October Grail played with a shotgun start at 9am. I invite all seniors to enter and, of course, stay on for the AGM which will start at 2pm.

To facilitate everyone getting lunch quickly when we all complete our eighteen holes at a similar time a form has been sent out with a selection of sandwiches, soup, and salad which seniors can use to pre-order lunch to avoid interminable waiting in queues.

The AGM will allow everyone the opportunity to suggest different competitions we can set up to spice up our regular Wednesday outings. It will also show the wide variety of formal competitions available to enter which has offered opportunities to many seniors to win cups and other prizes.

Like most clubs and societies, senior golf at Roehampton Club becomes more rewarding the more Members get involved. I ask all seniors to enter the winter knockouts immediately as the draw will be made at the end of this week.

In the winter, a hardy band of seniors will play on a regular basis on a course which provides greater opportunities than many other southwest London clubs which close in bad weather more frequently than Roehampton Club.

I look forward to seeing many of you on the course in full winter gear.

Team Stableford with Joker

Last week we played a team Stableford competition with each player having a joker to double their score on a hole chosen in advance. The winning team was composed of Paul Gordon-Brown, Douglas Millar and David Paterson with 92 Points.

Three other teams scored 91 or 90 points so it was the narrowest of victories. Many congratulations also go to David Moss for carding the best individual score of 42 Points.

Texas Scramble

Yesterday we reverted to the popular format of a Texas scramble. This is where teams pick the best drive and all of the team members play from that position. So it continues with successive shots till the ball finally rests in the hole.

In a very well contested competition, there was some magnificent scoring. Three teams broke nett sixty although two of them had four rather than three players.

The eventual winners were a team made up of Paul Gordon Brown, Ian Taylor-Restell and Peter Bateman. Congratulations to them all but especially to Paul who was in the winning team the previous week as well!
