Senior Men’s Golfers Report

We are now in the season of Annual General Meetings, the men’s AGM having taken place on Saturday before the Captains’ Drive In. This gave seniors the opportunity to thank the outgoing captain, Paul Taylor for his interest and support over the past year and to welcome Simon Butler as he takes over the Men’s captaincy. Relations between the Club, the men’s section and seniors have never been better. I look forward to continuing fruitful collaboration over the coming year.

The seniors’ AGM is coming up on Wednesday 26 October at 2.15pm after seniors play the October Grail. I am grateful for the Club for offering a shotgun start at 9am which will enable the AGM to proceed promptly in the early afternoon.

56 seniors have already signed up and I suggest any seniors still wishing to take part should do put their names in as soon as possible. The AGM provides an opportunity to review the matches and competitions in the past year and to preview what is proposed for 2023.

We have had two regular Wednesday competitions on 12th and 19th October. Last week, we played a team Stableford with seniors also being able to submit cards for the 2022-23 eclectic and to put in qualifying scores.

In the team competition, we had six teams of three and two teams of four, with the teams of four coming to the top.

Hassan Dajani, David Moss, Chris Cowan and Richard Luxton achieved a score of 83 three points after a discount of 6 points for teams of four. The runners up subject to the same discount were Ken Pratt, Ken Ukoku, Clive Nicholson and Danny Glasner with 79 points. The best individual score was 37 points posted by Danny Glasner.  Congratulations to all the winners.

Yesterday we played another team Stableford using the format of step up /Waltz i.e., one score, two scores and then three scores counting on successive holes. In a field of 28, and on a spectacular autumnal day congratulations must go to Alan Robinson, Mel Davies and Ev Schenk winning with 79 Points! The runners up were David Bouch, Bengt Grundberg and Simon Lucas with 74 Points.

I look forward to seeing seniors at the AGM next Wednesday.

Douglas Millar, Chairman
