Senior Golfers’ Report

As I reported two weeks ago, our season of matches is well underway. Our John Ling golfing squad includes some of our best golfers. On Monday, Roehampton Club, captained by Martin Abbott, won a convincing victory away at Burhill in the John Ling Salver. A strong Burhill team, comprising mainly single-figure handicappers with an average HI of 8.5, was comprehensively beaten 4-1 by a Roehampton team averaging 16.7. The highlight was an 8 and 6 victory by Roy Martin and Keith Atkins.

We are now in the quarter finals, where we will host either Leatherhead or Cuddington.

Other friendly matches have also been completed. This includes our inaugural match away against Highgate in bad weather last Friday where the Club halved the match.

As promised in an earlier report the Seniors’ Committee aims to include as many seniors as we can in our teams. We can only do this if seniors go onto Intelligent Golf, sign up for the seniors’ squad and then indicate their availability to play on the dates set out. When I tried to select a team for our first home match on 2nd July only six seniors had declared availability. Almost all the fixtures to the end of the season are now on IG, so please sign up.

The gradual opening up of the Club will allow home fixtures from 2nd July when we welcome Wimbledon Common. As usual, we will be holding the June Grail on the last

Wednesday of the month on 30 June. Perhaps someone can beat David Moss who has won the past two competitions.
