Men’s Senior’s Golf Chair’s Report

We have been lucky with the weather since my return from warmer climes.

Very little rain and even some sunshine. Things are looking up as we can once more enter

the Sports Shop through its front door. Many seniors take the opportunity of taking holidays at this time of year but our events have been well supported and enjoyable. The course has been in excellent condition –thank you Peter and your team – and even buggies have been permitted after the frost has lifted.

January and February results

Conditions were tricky for the Grail in January as can be seen by the scores. Only a single player beat par. Well done John Randel, a convincing winner by two strokes. No one can say our course is easy – at least no senior can. We have had only two scores beating par out of nearly 200 rounds in the last three Grails. The prize winners were 1st John Randel with 38 points, 2nd Russell Gooding with 36 points (countback) 3rd Trevor Hearle with 36 points and 4th Simon Lucas with 34 points.

The winners of the Yellow Ball on 22nd January were Nicholas Brown, Kevin Doyle and David Paterson winning the competition with 104 points. The runners up were Andrew Hine, Paul Gordon-Brown, Brian Hall and Donald McKenzie with a 4-ball adjusted 103 points. I was lucky to have David Patterson in my team. On the back nine he came back in 41 shots – 25 Stableford points for him alone without doubling the holes where he had the yellow ball.

On 5th February in the sunshine the Team Stableford with mulligan was won by David Bouch, Nicholas Brown and Giles Clark with 79 points. The runners up were John Cardwell, Paul Gordon-Brown and Chris Cowan with 76 points.

On a dank winter’s morning on 12th February the Team Joker event was won by David Bouch, Andrew Hine and Martin Waller with 83 points (on countback). The runners up were Geoff Bradford, Chris Cowan, Dennis Gould and Raj Vara with 83 points (4-ball adjusted). Another fine back nine of 41 points – this time it was David Bouch. Well played David.

Forthcoming events

Our matches start in six weeks. I am captaining the first match and will be selecting the team next week so it would be most helpful if those who wish to play would set their availability on Intelligent Golf. I do hope those who are selected will wear our smart tops at the matches. An email was circulated recently regarding the purchase of Seniors shirts and sweaters. I understand that you can order these items online.
