Seniors Grail
I had hoped to be congratulating two Grail winners in this report. Sadly the rain gods appeared with a vengeance on 27th November, so much so that the croquet lawn was under water at 8am as we were due to start. It did, however, give me the opportunity to finalise the Seniors’ Christmas Lunch menu and buy the crackers and the prizes. As the next Grail was due early in December there was no opportunity to set another date as we would in the summer. We were dealt a better hand on 11th December with over 40 competitors enjoying the course in excellent condition. The winner was Denis Gould with 38 points. The other prize winners were John Fooks with 35 points (countback), Roy Martin with 35 points (countback) and last month’s winner, who held an early lead in the clubhouse, John Tyrwhitt with 35 points. Well done Denis, the first ‘leftie’ grail winner for some time, I think.
November and December results
A Stableford roll up was held on 20th November. The winners were Andrew Hine, Brian Hall and Suresh Advani with 82 points. The runners up were Duncan Christie-Miller, Anders Grundberg and Nigel Karmel with 77 points.
The Seniors Roll up – 4 Clubs and a putter – was played on 4th December and the winning team was Kevin Doyle, Suresh Vara and Gilbert Ellacombe 73 points. The runners up were Raj Vara, Trevor Hearle and Terry Dillon with 69 points.
Upcoming events
I look forward to seeing many Seniors at the Christmas Lunch on 18th December. There is still room if you are now available. We play nine holes of four ball better ball stableford before lunch. There remain a few tee times on the front nine. There are eight prizes in all.
