Racquet Director’s Diary

Joe Salisbury – Australian Open Champion

Huge congratulations to Joe Salisbury, who on Sunday became a Grand Slam Champion by winning the Men’s Doubles at the Australian Open with his partner Rajeev Ram. The 27 year-old Roehampton Club first team player and American; Ram, 35, beat Australian wildcards Max Purcell and Luke Saville 6-4 6-2 in the final at the Rod Laver Arena. He and Jamie Murray are the only two British winners of the men’s doubles title in Australia in the Open Era. This is a fantastic achievement by Joe who has been a Roehampton Club Member since he was five years old! To mark his success Joe will be having celebratory drinks with his family and friends in the Roehampton Room on Saturday 8th February from 7pm onwards. Numbers will be limited so if you would like to come along please confirm by email to james.matharu@roehamptonclub.co.uk

Wimbledon Ballot 2020

The last chance to ‘opt in’ for ‘tennis eligible’ Members is Friday 14th February 2020. Please go to the LTA website, sign-in as a British Tennis Member and follow the instructions. If you miss this deadline you will not be entered into the ballot for the 2020 Championships.

Club Championships

We will soon be coordinating the entry forms for the annual Club Championships. The Club Tennis Championships are a major highlight of the Club’s annual calendar and it would be great to see many players in the draws. These tournaments are an ideal opportunity to play a match against someone you would not normally compete against and I would encourage all tennis Members to give it a go! Finals Day is Sunday 28th June so put that date in your diary.

Half-term Sports Camps

Bookings are now open for the sports camps running from 17th – 21st February. This year the sports camps have been relaunched. They will now start at 9.30am and the camps will be divided into 5–8 and 9–12-year olds. For more information, please contact Reception.
