PhotoClub Lecture – Joel Meyerowitz

Thursday 31st October, 7-8.30pm

Open to ALL MEMBERS

The PhotoClub would like to invite all Members to a lecture by award-winning photographer Joel Meyerowitz on 31st October at 7pm.

Roehampton Club is honoured to have Joel giving a lecture to Members as an eminent photographer who was one of the pioneers to use colour film. He has a yearlong exhibition at Tate Modern currently.

This has been made possible through Art Tutor Kathy Barker’s daughter Manon Ouimet. Manon and her husband Jacob have been working with Joel to make a documentary film about him and his artist wife Maggie Barrett. It has featured at film festivals around the world this year including the London Film Festival this month.

Joel has always seen himself as a street photographer in the tradition of Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Frank.  As an early advocate of colour photography (mid-60’s), Meyerowitz was instrumental in changing the attitude toward the use of colour photography from one of resistance to nearly universal acceptance.

Joel and Maggie are also keen to talk about the collaboration of art with photography as evidenced in their work together as well as showing how your art/photography can be seen as an expression of yourself.

Book now at Reception and encourage friends and guests to come along to listen to this icon of the photographic world. We may never see his like again here.

Art Group members may attend for free but should register at Reception.
Other Club Members’ tickets cost £15 but you could join the Art Group for £10 and attend this lecture and the last Art Group lecture of this year for free.
