Summer seems to be a distant memory with several days of inclement weather with Storms Babet and Ciaran hitting our shores. However, thanks to Peter and his team the course remained playable for a lot of the time.

Competition Results

The Season Finale was held on Saturday and the clocks changed on Sunday. Traditionally it marks the end of the summer competitions and the start of a quieter golfing period.

It has been a wonderful year of golf with a big thank you again to Simon Butler for all his hard work and making it such a fun year. Time for a rest Simon.

A full field participated in a shotgun start comprising teams of three, each card contributed to the team total.

The winners with 113 points were David Birn, Stuart Loggie and Greg Waunford Brown.

David also picked up the individual prize with 42 points which was an incredible four under par. It is worth mentioning that David won this competition last year with a remarkable five under.

Congratulations to second placed Ben Wilson with 39 points and third place Simon Prince with 38 points on count back.

The Scratch team beat Surrey A, 8-7 – a great result! 3.5-1.5 in the morning and 4.5-5.5 in the afternoon.

Twelve hardy souls started the AM roll up on 21st October having risen earlier to meet Russell Gooding as the organiser at 7.30am. They arrived with enthusiasm tinged with a little trepidation

Sadly despite having started they had to abandon their rounds having played several holes as the course became waterlogged and had to be closed. Well done for a valiant effort.

An important mention to the junior cadets who played in a 9-hole Stableford on Sunday 22nd October. It ended with a closely fought four-way tie with Casper, Paul, Harvey and Samuel taking the honours. Well done, the future looks bright with such talent!

The FE Bland Family foursomes took place on 29th October which resulted in a win for Niels and William Verbeek.

Andrew and Jacob Barnes finished second and third place went to Ben and Archie Angood.

A special mention to all the Junior players who participated and to everyone for finishing the 18 holes in once again wet conditions.

Future Events

The November Stableford will be held on 4th November with places still available.

A morning rollup is scheduled for the 12th November with an AM and PM Roll up on the 19th November.

The first round of the winter knockout has to be played by Sunday 26th November. Please note that all participants need to initially offer three weekend dates to their opponents.

The rules are within Intelligent Golf and are applied to support the event rounds progressing to meet deadlines – especially with Christmas approaching so holidays and likely course closures for bad weather.

Tickets remain for the Annual Men’s Golf Dinner which will be held on Friday 17th November.

This a great opportunity to regale stories of triumph and disaster over the past year with fellow Members over a libation or two. It is the major prize giving event of the year and we will be entertained by England’s very own cricketing legend Chris Cowdrey.

In the meantime, until we meet again I wish you all the best of golfing health.
