Men’s Golf Captain’s Blog

This is my third golf blog which seems to arrive at the same frequency as the Atlantic storm systems with Debi presently soaking the course.

A big thank you to Peter Bradburn and David Howe for keeping the course in such good order.

Captain and Pro

My first Captain and Pro match took place on Saturday 11th November against Justin Thesiger and Bob Mitchell. We were three up after four and then relentlessly reeled in.

Thankfully Ricky produced a great putt on the 18th for a birdie and the win. We were all in awe of Ricky’s golf who shot a stunning 66.

Many thanks to Justin and Bob for a competitive match and supporting our Captain’s charity Small Steps.

The next dates are 25th November and 9th December. I believe the last date is still available so please sign up.

Competitions

The November Stableford on 4th November was won by Nick Webb with 40 points.

1st Nick Webb 40 points

2nd Stephen Jones 39 points

3rd Bob Mitchell 37 points

Congratulations to all participants.

The Am Roll Up took place on 12th November and was won by Alistair Wright with 39 points. Alistair is a relatively new Member who has recently taken up golf hailing from a tennis background. Congratulations and welcome.

Unfortunately, our Scratch Team lost in the semi-final of the EAGG Plate to Burhill. It was played at the London Club on the Heritage Course. It was a very close match which was unfortunately lost in a playoff hole. The team consisted ofDave Birn, Mike Hamblin, Vince Thorne , Scott Stanley and Peter Crocombe. Well done for competing gallantly gents.

A special mention to Zaal Owen who won the Junior Cadet Stableford on Sunday followed by Charles Greenwood.

A gentle reminder that the Winter foursomes have to be played by 26th November. Gratefully many of the matches are on schedule to be completed by this date.

Upcoming Competitions

AM and PM rollups are listed on Sunday 19th November. For those interested in playing please attend the club café at 7.30 am and 11.30 am respectively. These are a great way to meet and play with other members outside your usual playing partners as the draw to play is randomly selected.

Last but not least is our annual dinner which will be on Friday 17th November. It is anticipated to be a full house and all attendees should arrive at 6.45pm to be seated at 7.10pm.

This will be the Simon Butler’s farewell shindig and all proceeds will go to his worthy charity ‘Sport in Mind’. Once again, a big thank you for a great year and for your generosity.

It is our major prize giving event to congratulate the winners and plucky runner ups. Thereafter we will be entertained by our guest speaker Chris Cowdrey.
