Men’s Golf Blog

Winter has definitely set in since my last blog – seemingly constant rain means the work of Head Greenkeeper David and his team to keep the course open is ever challenging.  I am pleased to say that Ricky and I broke our duck and won our first Captain and Pro match against Neil Anderson and Graham Terry.

On the front nine, Neil putted like Tiger, and, with the constant encouragement of Graham, he managed four net birdies to put the pair 1 up at the turn. Thankfully Ricky set the tone by making an exceptional eagle at the 10th and we played the back nine in 5 under gross – to just take the honours on the 18th green.

The Annual Men’s Golf Dinner was once again a magnificent event and each year it seems to get better and better. 120 Members and guests enjoyed the musings of well-known sports commentator Andrew Cotter along with the presentation to the winners of all the major golf trophies. Pride of place went to Club Champion Scott Stanley.

It was an evening of great food and wine, great company, some dubious singing but an all-round successful night. Huge thanks to the Events and F&B teams who looked after us so well.

There are just a couple of spots left in the Men’s Stableford on Saturday 3rd December but there is plenty of opportunity to play on Sunday when the Club Roll up will meet in the Club Café. The draw is made at 07:45 and is open to all golf Members with weekend playing rights. Please be in the café prior to entry closing at 07:45.

Finally, a date for your diary – the Christmas Charity competition is on Saturday 17th December. The format is teams of 4 with 3 from 4 scores counting on the par 4s and 5s and ALL scores counting on the par 3s.  It is a fabulous event and fancy dress highly encouraged!  Entry opens this Saturday 3rd December at 07:00.   As the event is a ‘shotgun start’, the prize giving will be held immediately afterwards alongside a charity auction with items from the Masters, Bears Club and some fine wine. Definitely an opportunity to get a gift for your golfing loved one!
