Members’ Charity Challenges

London Marathon run in aid of the Reed’s School Foundation

Member Harry Lazell will be running in this year’s London Marathon to raise funds for the Reed’s School Foundation / London Orphan Asylum, a cause that’s very close to his heart.

‘I am running the London Marathon in support of Reed’s School Foundation, a cause that has had a profound impact on the lives of countless children. For over 200 years, the Foundation has provided educational and pastoral support for often vulnerable children who have lost the support of one or both parents.

Over 12,000 children have had their lives transformed through the work of the Foundation. In many cases, these children have suffered from parental deaths, abandonment, abuse and parental health issues, physical or mental. I’ve seen first-hand how powerful this support can be. Some of my closest friends were on bursaries at school, and I’ve witnessed the transformative effect it has had on their lives.’

In addition to Foundation places, Reed’s Foundation also runs outreach activities with over 40 primary and secondary schools in disadvantaged areas and a thought leadership programme to help schools and charities assist children from vulnerable backgrounds.

Fundraising run from Royal Marsden to Santiago de Compostela, Spain

Member Henry Daubeney, a 19-year-old student is embarking on a monumental journey this May/June 2025. He will run from the Royal Marsden Hospital in London to Santiago de Compostela, Spain in honour of his late grandmother, Margaret Daubeney, who courageously battled cancer and pulmonary hypertension for almost 10 years.

He aims to raise awareness of the work of the Royal Marsden Hospital as well as cancers and pulmonary hypertension. His fundraising goal of £5,000 for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity will support the groundbreaking cancer treatment and research for the hospital.

Henry’s challenge will focus on resilience, strong mental health, the ability to face and push through challenges, and to be able to stay positive even under enormous emotional, physical and psychological stress and strain.

Note from Henry: ‘In between lectures and coursework I have been regularly training at Roehampton Club and the fantastic gym has been a great part of my strength and conditioning as well as endurance training. With less than 80 days to go until I start this run we’re moving into an exciting part of fundraising, training and finishing my first year at university. I look forward to posting regular updates along the way and the experience.’
