Lady Golf Captain’s Blog

After a long and lovely warm autumn, I think winter golf might have arrived with a vengeance. We have had the course closed for rain and start times delayed for fog. I hope this is not a sign of what is to come.

Competitions

Despite a slightly wet day we managed to get all the first rounds played in the Danziger Salver Foursomes competition last week. Well done to all the winning teams and commiserations to the ones in second place!

This week Tuesday’s Stableford was a total wash out. I believe only seven people went out and most played eight or nine holes. I got soaked!

Next week we have a fun competition, the Stroke Index Challenge and the following week we have a yellow ball competition. Both are individual signup with Members to select their preferred time slot (Early, Middle or Late), so again please join in and play with someone new.

Interclub Golf

The Pearson team played their third away match versus Strawberry Hill on Friday 11th November. The team played brilliantly and came away with a 5/2 win. Well done! Their next match is a home match against Effingham on Thursday 24th November.

The Derry team has had two of their matches postponed due to wet courses. They now have an away match against Tandridge on Friday 18th and the home leg on Sunday 20th.  Fingers crossed the weather is on their side so that these matches can be played.

Best of luck from the entire Ladies’ Section to everyone playing in these matches!

Christmas Golf and lunch

Sign up for our annual Christmas Golf and lunch on 13th December opens on Tuesday 22nd. There will be coffee and gingerbread biscuits from 8.30 on the piazza and a shotgun start at 9.30. This will be a team event with a 4 Ball Better Ball Stableford competition over nine holes where the two pairs combine their score at the end.

Lunch will be served at 12:45. Sign up via the Members’ website or at Reception. The cost for lunch is £34. You are very welcome to join in for the lunch even if you are not playing in the morning.

We will have a raffle in Support of Age UK Wandsworth. As is tradition, we ask for donations for the raffle table, to be left at Reception, in the week preceding. You will be able to pre order raffle tickets or buy them on the day.

Christmas Charity Competition

On Saturday 17th December there will be a mixed competition supporting both the Men’s Captains charity, SportIn Mind and the Lady Captains charity, Age UK Wandsworth. We will play in teams of four, with the best three scores on Par 4’s and 5’s and all scores count on par 3’s. All players will play from the red tees. The competition fee is £20 and includes a mulligan. The Club wants to encourage as many teams as possible to be mixed. Sign up for this opens on 3rd December.

Request from our Course Marshals

I have been asked to remind you to always check in with the marshal before you go out to play and if the marshal is not there, please tell the Sports Shop team instead. It is important for the marshals and the Club to know who is out on the course.

Please also remember to repair your pitch marks, replace divots, and rake bunkers!
