Lady Golf Captain’s Blog

Has it really been another couple of weeks? Looks like this year will run by!

Competitions

Well done to last week’s winners of the Stableford. It can only go downhill from here for your Lady Captain!

A few hardy people came out for the Roll Up Tuesday 1st November but due to very wet conditions there were a mix of 9 and 15 holes played and no competition.

Thank you to everyone who have signed up for Winter Knockouts.

Next week on 8th November the first and some of the second rounds of the Danziger Salvers will be played. Good luck to all teams.

On the 8th the signup opens for the Fun Competition, Stroke Index Challenge, on Tuesday 22nd. It is an individual signup so please join in and play with someone new. We are trialling a system where you can choose between three groups of tee times, early, middle and late. I hope this will help with your diary.

Interclub Golf

Our Pearson team played their first match away at the RAC on Friday 28th October and lost 4/3 which is a good result for an away match. Well done to all. It is always good to have three wins in the bank for the home match.

The second match was played on Monday 31st October away at Effingham. The result was the same, a loss of 4/3, but very well fought matches. Jackie Beedle went all the way to the 22nd hole. Well done.

The next match will be the third away match versus Strawberry Hill on Friday 11th November. We wish the team the best of luck.

The Derry team is in a group stage with Croham Hurst, Tandridge and Woking. The team of Jo Thesiger, Ali Jacobs and Captain Jane Peel will play away on Thursday 3rd November. Best of luck.

Therese Swanson, Fiona Pollard, Claire Martin and Henrietta O’Shea are all playing in the SLCGA Autumn Match Play Knockouts, and I would like to wish them all good luck for their upcoming matches.

Captain and Pro matches

I am very much looking forward to starting my Captain and Pro matches in a few weeks’ time. Thank you to everyone who have signed up so far. Still a few dates left, and the signup sheet has now gone up in the Ladies’ Changing Room. Any pairing with a handicap index is welcome to challenge one of the pros and me. It is all for a good cause, Age UK Wandsworth, and you get the pleasure of watching a pro in action for a very modest sum. In the beginning of next year, we will add more dates.

Library

As you might have seen the Library is now also supporting my Lady Captain’s Charity Age UK Wandsworth. The new system is that you have a choice of putting a pound in the wooden box or you write your membership number on a paper slip and put in in the new black box and then Louis will deduct £1 per book you take out. Please keep reading!

Information from our Marshals

The greens are very soft at the moment, and we have to remember (as always!) to repair our pitch marks on the greens and ideally any other pitch marks that we see.

Sometimes the Marshals come out onto the course and check on our speed of play. They would like you all to know not to take it personally.

None of us lose ground on purpose, and while it isn’t always pleasant to be asked to pick up the pace, remember that the Marshals are acting to benefit all the players. They are not judging your golf, but rather it is simply one of their responsibilities to ensure that the field is moving smoothly. Remember that your place is ‘behind the group in front, not in front of the group behind’.
