Captain and Pro matches

I had heard that Captain and Pro matches were fun. I think that is a definite understatement. Ricky and I played our first match last Wednesday against the lovely pairing of Jenny Gaskin and Jenny Burrett. Thanks to Ricky’s brilliant play, making birdie after birdie we managed to come through with a good win. Our opposition kindly said that they were happy to accommodate a first win for the Lady Captain.

Our second match took place this Sunday against the formidable pairing of Henrietta O’Shea and Caroline Dewar. Luckily for me, Ricky produced at least another seven birdies, so we were able to get another good scalp! Ricky has warned me that his game might not always be this flawless, but I have told him that it needs to be, because I am enjoying it a lot.

Thank you very much to all four challengers and Ricky for playing and for also supporting Age UK Wandsworth.

There are still a couple of slots for those interested. Please sign up in the Ladies’ Changing Room. More match dates will be released in the new year.

Competitions

Last week we played a Stroke Index Challenge and the winners were;

1st Tessa Ringrose, Therese Swanson and Anna Tingle 63 Points
2nd Caroline Leslie, Joanna Bright and Jackie Beedle 62 Points
3rd Gill Griffiths, Caroline Dewar and Linda Wareham  61 Points

This week we had fun with a Yellow Ball competition. Luckily not that many lost the yellow ball, meaning there were some excellent scores with a double points advantage for the yellow ball. The winners were;

1st Tricia Culliford, Jane Peel and Lorna Robey 99 Points
2nd Therese Swanson, Helen Maguire and Liz Dodds   95 Points
3rd Melanie Schreyer, Henrietta O’Shea and Nicola Pearson  93 Points

Congratulations to all the winners!

Next week we have the last Stableford of 2022 and there are a few free spaces left if anyone would like to play. The following week we have our Christmas Competition and on 20th December there is a 5-club fun competition where sign up opens on Tuesday 6th December.

Interclub Golf

The Pearson team played their home match against Effingham and got a fabulous 6/1 win. Their next matches are home against RAC on Thursday 1st December and home against Strawberry Hill on the following Thursday.

The Derry team has played both their matches against Tandridge and got a 2/1 win away and a brilliant 3/0 win at home. On Sunday they played Woking at home and unfortunately lost 2/1. All to play for in the away match in January. On Thursday 1st December they are playing Croham Hurst away and on the 11th they play them at home.

Best of luck to both teams from us all!

Christmas Golf and lunch

Our Christmas Golf on 13th December filled up within minutes of the sign-up opening and in order to avoid disappointment Louis has helped to double up teams on a few more holes than in previous years. This will most likely mean that the nine holes will take slightly longer than usual. Can I ask everyone to please be patient and to be understanding if the round is a bit slow. We will have light refreshments before golf and lunch afterwards and hope it will be a lovely festive day!

Please come for a mingle with coffee and biscuits from 8.30 on the Piazza before the shotgun start at 9.30. As previously said, this is a team event with a 4 Ball Better Ball Stableford competition over nine holes where the two pairs combine their score at the end. We no longer run a Christmas Hat competition, but it would be great to see some festive outfits on the day!

Lunch will be served around 1pm. If you have not yet signed up and paid for lunch, please do so either at Club Reception or by following the steps below. You are very welcome to join in for the lunch even if you are not playing in the morning.

Christmas Charity Competition

If you want to play in this competition, please remember to sign up on Saturday 3rd December. This is a mixed competition on Saturday 17th December supporting both the Men’s Captain’s Charity, Sport In Mind and the Lady Captain’s Charity, Age UK Wandsworth. We will play in teams of four, with the best three scores on Par 4’s and 5’s and all scores count on par 3’s. All players will play from the red tees. The competition fee is £20 and includes a mulligan. The Club wants to encourage as many teams as possible to be mixed.

Etiquette

If you find yourself no longer being able to play in a competition, please let your playing partners know so that they can try to find replacements.

Please also remember to repair your pitch marks, replace divots and rake bunkers!
