Ladies’ Golf Report

Congratulations to Caroline Nettel who has been awarded the MBE in the New Year’s Honours List for services to the economy. Apparently, she thinks it is because she buys so many pairs of shoes!

Derry

A great victory of 2/1 over Hankley Common at home by Jo, Lorna and Jane means the Derry team are through to the knockout stages. Well done all of you. Hankley sent a strong team of 4, 6 and 7 handicappers however the first two matches prevailed with huge wins of 6/4 and 7/5 with the final match going up the 19th. Many congratulations.

Pearson

One final match to play on 6th February best of luck.

Golf Competitions

The fun competition on a rather soggy 14th January was won by: Tricia Culliford, Henrietta O’Shea and Linda Hamilton with a whopping 62 points; Jenny Carter, Gill Griffiths and Caroline Stokes came second with 58 points, with me, Charlotta Lyckeus and Astrid Soloszczuk comming third with 55 points.

I played my first senior mixed match at Hurlingham last Thursday, a beautiful sunny day, what fun it was, a really enjoyable par 3 quirky course. Quentin managed a hole in one. Even so we sadly lost the Rose Bowl 5 ½  to 3 ½ .  Well organised Libby. Libby, Val Patten, Danit and myself played four ladies from Hurlingham and Quentin, Simon Lucas, Clive Nicholson, Richard Luxton and Mel Davies.

The results from the stroke index challenge played on Tuesday are:

1st – Gill Griffiths, Ali Jacobs and Caroline Williams, 55pts

2nd – Linda Hamilton, Patricia Morgan and Susan Major, 51pts c/b

3rd – Therese Swanson, Alison Halford and Emma Angood, 51pts

Finally, a huge thank you to my husband for running his postponed Captains’ charity day on Saturday raising £700 for both mine and Gerry’s charity. Thank you all for your generosity.

General

Rather disturbingly I have had a note from the Librarians stating that a quantity of books were removed from the library at the beginning of January with no donation made to the charity box. Who would do such a thing I ask myself, deprive needy children of a chance to experience what we take for granted with our wonderful facilities?

The next blog I will be in sunny South Africa so apologies, but I am not going to attempt it from my phone!  I may send in a photo to make you all jealous.
