English Women’s Amateur

Annabell Fuller played in the English Women’s Amateur last week. Annabell qualified as the top seed following her two fine rounds in the 36-hole medal phase of the event. She followed a five under par round of 68 at Headingley with a one under par score of 70 at Moortown for a total of 138 (-6). This was fantastic scoring as conditions throughout the event were extremely testing with persistent rainfall.

Annabell continued her fine form to reach the semi-final stage where she faced Kirsten Rudgeley. Annabell was three down with four holes to play but fought back to extend the match into extra holes. Unfortunately, she was defeated on the 21st.

Bel Wardle went on to win the final. We are all extremely proud of Annabell for having reached this stage of the event and wish her all the best for this week as she competes for England in The Women’s Home Internationals being played at Woodhall Spa. Issy Simpson – US Women’s Amateur

Member Issy Simpson, currently studying in the US has been playing some splendid golf. She qualified to compete in the 121st US Women’s Amateur played at Westchester Country Club. This was an incredible achievement to reach this far as the only English woman to reach this stage. Sadly, she just missed the cut.

Issy returns to London later in the month when she is looking forward to competing in some events over here. Image: Issy having just qualified.

Wallis Team

The team consisting of Jenny Carter, Inga Kempton and Gill Griffiths played a strong contingent from Burhill at home on Saturday 24th July. Despite a valiant effort, they came up heartbreakingly short which means the end of their challenge for this year.

Centenary Bowl

Debs Good captained the team playing Royal Mid-Surrey at home on Sunday 25th July with Danit Birn and Caroline Scallon. Unfortunately, another biblical thunderstorm meant they were called in and had to postpone the match with only a week to re-schedule.  Full marks to the aforementioned team and Royal Mid-Surrey for being able to replay the match on Sunday 2nd August.  Roehampton Club had a comfortable win away and with two matches won the last was called in.  Good luck to the Ladies against West Hill, being played by 5th September.

Hicks Trophy

The three amigos Jo, Jane and Lorna take on Foxhills away in the third round on 15th August.  Good luck to the players, pull out all the stops!
