The 2020 Ladies’ Club Champion is Lauren Gooding. The conclusion of the Ladies’ Club Championship was on Saturday 25th July in very different conditions to the previous Saturday. Lauren had carded an amazing gross 68 on beautiful, fast greens in the sunshine however the second Saturday was a different matter with a strong wind, and showers Lauren had a big enough cushion to comfortably win the trophy. Her aggregate score was 148 over the 36 holes (+4). Danit Birn won the 36 aggregate nett prize with an aggregate score of 151 (+7).

I hope next year we can attract a larger field especially, as sadly I suspect our four young superstar players (Annabell and Sammy Fuller, Lauren Gooding and Issy Simpson) , will be in America furthering their education and golfing careers, so it will be all to play for among the single figure handicap players. It is always worth watching so I would encourage (virus permitting) you all to come and watch even if only for a few holes or even from the terrace on the 18th green.

Roehampton Club was represented in the Ladies’ English Amateur Championships held at Woodhall Spa by Annabell, Sammy and Issy. There were not many other clubs to have three representatives. All performed creditably in tricky conditions with Annabell reaching the knockout stage. This week the Fuller girls are playing in the Swiss International Amateur Championships in Zurich. We wish them well.

On Tuesday we played a stableford and the Senior Ladies’ Trophy in fours. It was a lovely day, not too hot, not too windy, blissful. It feels like an age since we played any competitions and I found myself feeling nervous!

I realise fours is not the answer so to stem the tide of emails we shall revert to playing in 3s for competitions.

Well done indeed to Aisling Wilson (42 points), Claire Martin (40 points) and Caroline Dewar (39 points) for holding their concentration. I would also like to mention Kathleen Bacon in her very first competition who came in ninth with a wonderful round of 36 and Jane Terry who played in her first Tuesday competition (Jane is normally like Aisling only able to play competitions at the weekend). It was also encouraging to have two young ladies compete, Ellen Lyckeus and Lucy Terry. It was a first time playing for Lucy in a ladies’ competition.

Our next competition should be Tuesday 1st September, another Stableford. Please watch out for Tristan’s email and think about the Autumn Meeting which is scheduled to take place on consecutive Tuesdays 15th and 22nd September. We will not be holding the Foursomes competition this year.
