Health Club Update

Introducing Laura Martin – Health Club Committee Member

I am delighted to be part of this newly formed committee and to assist in the ongoing success of this growing area of Roehampton Club.

While doing my regular fitness workout and pondering on what to contribute to the Recorder this time, in line with the Committee’s mission to reach out to as many Health Club users as possible, it struck me how infrequently I actually change my workout routine. As a result, I don’t gain the maximum benefit from making the sometimes considerable effort to climb those stairs and workout.

Our range of first-class equipment has recently been upgraded and is constantly improving but I wonder how many of us really utilise it to its full potential – I am guilty I know, of just pressing ‘start’ on the cardiovascular machines when there are so many more sophisticated and interesting ways to use them.

The team of fitness instructors in the gym and studios cover many different areas of expertise and I know are keen to help us all gain maximum benefit from the gym and achieve whatever our fitness goals are. They are available not only for personal training but to assist with getting you started on a routine, or to update the one you have been using for far too long – at least two a year comes as part of our annual membership subscription.

Let’s utilise their expertise and involve them in seeing the results of what an updated spring workout routine can do. You can book an update session (I dislike the words induction or programme) via any member of the team, or if you prefer, just talk to them when you next go to the gym and take it from there!

The committee would love to hear your thoughts and successes. Contact Ricky Alexis, Gym and Studios Manager at ricky.alexis@roehamptonclub.co.uk or Health Club Committee Chair Nick Bunn at nickbunn@aol.com

The Health Club Committee will be producing regular updates to encourage your use of the pools, gym and studios and to listen to your ideas for improvement.

Swimming Pool Closures

In the past seven weeks there have been six pool contaminations due to children vomiting or defecating in the indoor pool. These incidents mean we have to close the indoor pool for at least six hours afterwards to ensure all the contaminated water is replaced.

This causes great inconvenience to many other Members, not to mention the significant increase in the pool operational costs of more chemicals and water being used as part of the rectification process. If we feel that the accident is avoidable then we will have to charge Members for the extra costs and inconvenience involved.

All parents must ensure the below Health Club swimming pool rules are followed at all times when children are using the swimming pools, either their own or any junior guests:

◊ All children aged under four must wear a swim nappy at all times
◊ Swim nappies must be covered by an appropriate costume to prevent any leakage
◊ Please ensure children have used the toilet before swimming
◊ Only allow your child to swim at least 90 minutes after eating
◊ Under no circumstances should anyone swim if you have been unwell with diarrhoea in the last 72 hours
◊ Children should not be naked around the poolside or in the pool at any time
◊ Nappies should only be changed in the changing rooms

The Club reserves the right to charge for any disruption caused to Members use of the swimming pools if found to be in breach of the above rules and or failing to report an incident.

If contaminations continue, then a review of young children using the swimming pools may take place.
