Chief Executive’s Message

Dear Member,

COVID-19 Restrictions

As you may be aware, we are on full alert at the Club in light of any Government directives on how best to cope with the increasing rate of COVID-19 infections. The Club will move to tier two – high risk – category from this weekend. An increasing number of Members are reporting that they have had a positive test for COVID-19, so we are following Track and Trace advice with each case.

Our Hospitality and Health Club teams have plans in place, should Wandsworth Borough or London as a whole move into tier three – very high risk – at a later stage. Tier two involves no household mixing indoors so this will have an impact on our hospitality offering and we cannot therefore offer viewings of upcoming Premiership or Six Nations Rugby matches in the Club as we had planned. All section events and classes it seems will not be able to go ahead for the foreseeable future.

Indoor tennis social groups and adult group lessons will be affected as well in the ITC and in the Airhall which is due to be inflated over courts 12-14 next week. Please click here for details of the restrictions.

Going to Tier three could mean we have to close the Health Club. A “circuit breaker lockdown” could result in all indoor hospitality being closed for a period of time, and no group exercise classes in the gym. All other operations could remain open with restrictions. We will wait and see and respond accordingly, keeping Members fully informed.

Piazza Refreshments

The Board has approved the expenditure for the installation of new seating with weather protection coverings in the piazza to complement a new refreshment trailer that is being designed for the Club. Due to restrictions being placed on any indoor hospitality, we will be keeping the current trailer in place until our new trailer is ready for installation. This will require an upgrading of the utilities in the Piazza area so please expect some disruption in that area in the coming months while we complete the installation. Having a permanent outdoor refreshment offering in the Piazza will be welcomed by many Members.

New World Golf Handicap System

All golfers should note that a new World Handicap System comes in to force from 2nd November, requiring Members to share their personal data with England Golf in order to maintain a handicap. Under GDPR we feel duty bound to ask everybody to consent to having their data shared with England Golf and to ensure that the relevant information is held in their profile. It is not compulsory to consent to the use of your data however if you do not consent to these conditions then, on the 2nd November, England Golf will be unable to provide you with a handicap index and you will be ineligible to compete in competitions at Roehampton Club in accordance with the rules from England Golf. Please click here for more details.
