Chief Executive’s Message

Dear Member,

It has been an exciting week at Wimbledon with a number of Roehampton Club Members featuring at different points – Joe Salisbury, seeded number one, with Rajeev Ram in the Men’s Doubles just failed to reach the final, losing in a five-set thriller yesterday. Cam Norrie, Britain’s Number One, takes on Novak Djokovic today trying to emulate Andy Murray by reaching the final. It’s a tough task but he is playing well enough to do so. It was so pleasing to see our first teamers Lloyd Glasspool, Hannah Klugman, Arthur Fery, and Issy Townsend play so well in their respective matches too ensuring Roehampton Club was very well represented. Our men’s and women’s first teams won the South East Championships last month and aim to win the National Championships in September to emulate our Squash first teams.

Airhall Two

Works have started this week preparing for the erection of Airhall Two and the upgrade of the four courts 7-10. This will be completed, all being well, on 31st October. Court 10 will be converted into a doubles court giving us four new acrylic doubles courts under cover in the winter months totalling ten indoor courts October to March each year. We are looking to minimise the disruption for tennis, golf and croquet players during this works and we thank everyone for their patience.

Dark Kitchens at Rosslyn Park FC

I am pleased to report that the dark kitchens at RPFC closed on 30th June. We have worked hard over the last few months liaising with Rosslyn Park, Wandsworth Council and local residents to ensure they closed as the noise and nuisance affected our Members’ enjoyment of accessing and using our Club. We appreciate that RPFC would like to increase their revenue, but we are encouraging them to work on more environmentally friendly and sustainable ways to do so and are prepared to help them achieve that with mutual benefit.

Peter Bradburn

As many Members know, Course and Grounds Manager Peter Bradburn underwent a serious operation in May. He is recovering well and looking to return on a part-time basis later this month. This is great news not only for his team and the Club but also for the regular readers of Grass Clippings in the Recorder! Many have missed his updates and tips for keeping your garden at its best. His team led by Chris Hughes (tennis and croquet), David Howe (golf), and Sam Cumber (gardens) have performed well in his absence producing superb surfaces for the recent Golf and Tennis Club Championships. Our thanks to all three teams.

Summer Camps for Kids

The annual summer camps, including the ever-popular Spy Camps, Summer Sports Camp, Tennis Camps, Golf Camps, as well as the Tennis and MUGA camp are all now open for booking. This year the Swim Crash courses will now be open to both Junior and Adult Members. The demand will be high so be sure to book places for your children now. Best wishes,

Marc,
