Chief Executive’s Message

Dear Member,
Roehampton Club has always valued sporting ability above experience. The Club has nourished and developed talent from an early age with its excellent tuition programmes across all sports and the successes of Joe Salisbury, Annabell and Sammy Fuller, Alfie Fox, Lauren Gooding, Harry Fisher to name but a few is testament to that philosophy.

To see Juniors aged 11 and under battling with adults aged 45 plus in the Tennis Club Championships with no quarter given but full mutual respect on show was wonderful to watch.

Look out for more examples this weekend in the Tennis Club Championships and when the men’s golf scratch team play Surrey County 1st team on Sunday. Being the best you can be is at the core of our wonderful Club.

Annabell Fuller – Runner Up in British Amateur Championship

Following on from her win in the English Amateur Strokeplay Championship Annabell came very close to adding the British Amateur Championship title to her impressive list of victories. She just lost to Aline Krauter of Germany by 1 hole in the final at West Lancs GC after claiming some notable scalps along the way.

Still only aged 18 she flew back on Monday to resume her studies at University of Florida. Annabell seems destined to have a glittering amateur career before considering turning professional after her college studies.

With Issy Simpson, Sammy Fuller and 2020 Club Champion Lauren Gooding all now studying in America while playing collegiate golf for their Universities, along with Annabell, Roehampton Club is so pleased to have produced four top quality women golfers.

Tennis Club Championships

The final stages of the Adult and Junior Club Championships take place this weekend on the grass courts 25-28. A number of 1st team players are playing in the men’s and women’s singles plus doubles competitions so a high standard of tennis will be on view. Semi finals on Saturday and the Finals are on Sunday. Spectators are very welcome to support our adult and junior top players – order of play (subject to change)

Squash Training

Paul Lindsay has done a great job encouraging squash players back to the courts while coping with the current restrictions. He has instigated numerous drills and given private lessons to ensure members are squash fit avoiding injury ready for competitive games in September when the regulations permit. Read his latest update on how you can play with your friends and family.

Health Club

We were pleased to be able to reintroduce Aqua Fit and Hydro Spin this week in the pools and are now preparing for the re-introduction of swimming lessons next Monday. Again the attention to detail to ensure all the safety regulations are adhered to has been first class from Luke Fenton and his team. Managing numbers in the changing rooms has worked well but we still can only allow indoor pool swimmers to use them.

New Executive Chef

I am delighted to announce that Arnaud Delannay joins the Kitchen team as our new Executive Head Chef. Arnaud, from France, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience having worked in a number of top restaurants and hotels in London including; Darwin Brassiere Sky Garden, Trafalgar St James Hotel, Vivi at Centre Point and The Collection Canary Wharf.

Arnaud has worked here on a casual basis for the last three weeks and is looking forward to working with the Kitchen team to raise the quality and consistency of our offering to Members to a new level.

Arnaud replaces Ray Thompson who left at the end of July to return to Kent to be close to his family and start up a new business. We have received many compliments on the standard of food since we re-opened and Arnaud wants to enhance this reputation further.

Best wishes
Marc
