Chief Executive’s Message

Dear Member,

I hope everyone is staying safe during the second lockdown and I am sure all are heartened by the news that a Covid-19 vaccine is on the horizon as that bodes well for Members to be able to use the Club with some return to normality in 2021.

On site operations

There are a number of staff on site with me working hard to ensure that the Club is fully operational for Members to return on 3rd December. Greenkeepers, maintenance and cleaning staff are completing outstanding autumn / winter jobs and we have contractors on site working to install the outdoor catering pavilion in the piazza plus a new canopy for the bar terrace. We are keen to enable Members to continue to meet other Members outside to share a coffee and snack before or after playing sport and after having a swim. The Piazza Pavilion will be heated and have protective glass screens from the cold weather which can be removed in the summer. This project will be completed mid-December.

Art Exhibition and Sale

The Art Group have been busy all year not letting a pandemic deter them from producing some excellent works which they would like to exhibit virtually this year. Richard Ramsey and his Committee report that there are a record 45 artists exhibiting 122 paintings and drawings to view. Many are new and exciting artists who are exhibiting with the Group for the first time. Please click below:

Online Classes and Activities

I must thank certain staff for compiling a fabulous range of classes and activities to keep Members active and fully occupied during this second lockdown – Emily Hurse and her team of instructors for the range of fitness classes, virtual personal training and the outdoor one-to-one personal training taking place in the Outdoor Pool area. Also Executive Chef Arnaud Delannay and Nicki Davis for the exciting range of hampers (pictured), wines, Christmas puddings, advent calendars and of course the famous Roehampton Club Gin with its new 120 anniversary box- perfect gift for Christmas. Richard Harrison’s you tube golf classes start soon as well. A number of Members continue to provide expert tuition also – Paul Mendelson for his online bridge classes and Chris and Gill Bray for their online backgammon tuition, plus look out for some executive coaching and career advice from James Baybutt. See inside this edition for full details.

Membership Renewals

The membership renewal payment notices were sent out this week and we would encourage Members to take advantage of the discount applied by paying their annual subscription up front to benefit themselves and of course the Club. If a Member wishes to resign or change category please note that they need to before November 30th 2020. Contact membership@roehamptonclub.co.uk for more details. We will be sorry of course to see you go.

Mr President

With all the furore concerning the election of a US President, which Matt Frei will be talking to Members about on Friday 20th November, it is comforting to know that our Club President Russell Evans celebrated his 98th birthday last week and 30 years as our President without any fuss at all. I can report he is in fine fettle and sends his good wishes to all Members.

Best wishes,

Marc
