Bridge Report

It has been a relatively quiet two weeks in the Bridge Room.

We have played one Club match which was against Royal Mid Surrey. Many congratulations to Kate Manners, Jeanette Reid, Danny and Sally Gesau, Gunilla and Kristoffer Huldt, Pippa and Derek Lyons for a good win.

In the Ladies’ Royal Wimbledon Golf League we have played two matches, winning one convincingly against Burhill GC by 37 Imps and losing the other very narrowly by 11 Imps to Sunningdale GC.

In the Surrey Tennis Club League we have played two matches, one against a team from St George’s Hill and the other against Claygate Tennis Club, winning both comfortably.

The Diamonds Team in the Business Houses League have played two matches, losing one narrowly by 7 IMPs against Lavender Blue and one convincingly, by 24 IMPs against TKFH. They are currently second in their league.

Viv Harris is pleased to report that: both Roehampton Club teams are through to the second round of the Devonshire Cup.

Roehampton Blue team beat RAC Elite very convincingly on 7th January and now play Savile on 4th February.

Roehampton Red team had a tougher match and trailed Hurlingham Peacocks by 310 at the end of the first half but had a storming second half winning by just over 2000 points. The Red team meet the winners of Oxford and Cambridge Alpha  v Reform Club. The match will be played on 11th February.

On Monday we held the first of our new Supervised play sessions. We had 14 people turn up to play. Many thanks to Ron Wood and Val Lanceley for their valuable advice to the players. We would love to have more tables, so please spread the word. The sessions are aimed at relatively inexperienced players who would like to play more.

As a Club we have subscribed on your behalf to Pianola Plus for the last year or so. This is really quite a monetary outlay and after much consideration we have decided not to continue to fund this. Roehampton Club will still continue to pay for your Pianola subscription but if you would like access to a more detailed analysis of the hands then you will need to subscribe individually to Pianola Plus from now on. On an individual basis, Pianola Plus costs £5/mo or £42/yr (=£3.50/mo). Pianola are offering a 25% discount off the first payment to anyone taking up this subscription in the near future. There is a promo code for this. Please enter ROEHAMPTON in the appropriate box when applying (needs to be entered all in UPPER CASE).

A reminder that next Monday, 27th January, the afternoon duplicate session will be run in memory of Norrie Buxton. The £3 table money, plus any donations you would like to make, will be given to Target Ovarian Cancer. For this session there is a sign-up sheet on the board. Please sign this sheet if you are playing. This is just to ensure that we have enough tables laid up for the afternoon.  All standards of players are welcome.

On the following two Mondays, 3rd and 10th February, play will be for the Founders Trophy. To qualify for this you must play with the same partner for the two sessions. No sign-up is necessary, just come along to both sessions.
