Bridge Blog

It has been a relatively quiet month for both external and internal competitions but encouraging to see good attendances at different Club sessions.

There will be an updated calendar available very soon posted at the Club and online. Most dates are unchanged except for two tennis and bridge dates (one internal and one for the match against Hurlingham) as well as a date in July for an away croquet and bridge match against Hurlingham. Please do take an updated copy if in any doubt around these new dates.

Bridge Summer Party

Booking is now open for our summer party to be held on Thursday 6th June. This should be a good opportunity for us all to mix socially as well as across the bridge table. Thanks to the organisers and club staff for arranging an attractive and reasonably-priced menu. We are looking forward to a great evening. Click here for the poster

Competition results

Congratulations to Nigel and Ron for winning the Winter Rubber Bridge Knockout. The final against Danny and Sally seems to have been quite a struggle with Nigel and Ron finally winning by the smallest of margins.

Most of the leagues that Roehampton Club plays in are winding down soon for the current year and I hope to report around these in my next blog. There should be some good results to report as well the opportunity to profile more of the wide range of bridge activities that Club Members participate in.

April was a quiet month for external matches but we have upcoming matches against Queens, Oxford and Cambridge, Woodcote Park and RAC Pall Mall to look forward to as well as an internal bridge and croquet event.

Upcoming events

The English Bridge Union in partnership with Cancer Research UK will be running a ‘Festival of Bridge’ during the week beginning 9th September. Clubs are being invited to put on events in order to raise the profile of the game of bridge in the community and at the same time to raise funds for one of the UK’s most important charities. I am aware that other Surrey Bridge Clubs are planning to hold events so it will be good that Roehampton Club can do the same and we will develop plans around this accordingly.
