Special Social Bridge Session
On Thursday 23rd November we ran a special version of the Social Bridge. This brought in a few more experienced players to act as mentors especially to encourage less experienced players who are interested to join these sessions. It was a very pleasant evening and great to see a good turnout for the supper beforehand as well as the Bridge. Thanks to Fiona for organising this evening which will hopefully serve as an example for similar events going forward.
Simultaneous Pairs
On Monday 4th December we will join other Bridge Clubs in Surrey in running the Dorin Salver Charity Sim Pairs. The charity chosen for this event is the Queen Elizabeth Foundation. There will be a £2 contribution per head added to the normal table money. The club will collect the extra money and send this to the SCBA which is coordinating the event.
Bridge over the Christmas Period
The Bridge Christmas party is taking place on Saturday 2nd December. The drinks reception will start at 6 pm to be followed by dinner, prizegiving and a festive Chicago session.
The Social Bridge group are having their Christmas Special on 14th December. This will include mulled wine and mince pies. I am told that some interesting and unusual Bridge is in prospect.
Over the holiday period we will have the usual Christmas Eve meet from 10 am – 12pm. We plan to cancel the Duplicate Session on 28th December but will run a Social Bridge Duplicate on 29th December as well as the usual Monday Duplicate on New Year’s Day. After that it will be business as usual …
Devonshire Cup
We have now been informed by the RAC that the Devonshire Cup will take place over the four Tuesdays in February. Roehampton Club is planning to enter three teams including last year’s winning team. Teams are being coordinated by myself, Viv Harris and Julie Bacon respectively.
Hurlingham Swiss Teams
Roehampton Club Members are invited to submit teams of four for the Hurlingham Swiss Teams Invitational Event 2024 which will be held at the Hurlingham Club on Saturday 13th January from 10am-4.30pm.
There will be three rounds of five boards in the morning and afternoon. Richard Banbury will be the Tournament Director. The winning team will be awarded the Pam Walker Cup and there will also be prizes for the winners and runners-up.
Cost per team is £180, which includes a two-course lunch, refreshments and prizes. Teams must be made up of players from the same club. Please inform Ellen Lyons of your intention to participate by email at ellenlyons5@gmail.com
There is a separate registration form required which Ellen can send you upon request or it can be obtained from me or Ellie.
So, plenty to look forward to over the festive period!
