Bridge Blog

July and August are very quiet so not much to report this week.

Paul Mendelson returned for two weeks in July and delivered four classes which were well supported and very much enjoyed.

Paul also stayed on last Friday to play in our monthly teams practice which provided a great opportunity and was very entertaining to hear his words of wit and wisdom during the afternoon.

August supervised practice

Ron Wood is continuing to run supervised practice on Monday evenings at 7pm through July and August.

No need to book – £4 table money.

Autumn teaching

Two of our teaching programmes are settled for the autumn term beginning September, you can find the details attached.

Click here for more details – Niall Igoe’s intermediate Monday evening course

Click here for more details – Tim Chanter’s online refresh and practice Tuesday evening course

Niall will also continue delivering his Wednesday morning standalone session from September and the syllabus will be posted on the Bridge Board and Bridgewebs as soon as available.

Loulou’s supervised practice also returns Tuesdays at 2pm from 12th September.

I am still trying to find a teacher for a complete beginner’s course to start in September and will also publish details as soon as confirmed.

Important date for September – Monday 4th September

At our Monday duplicate we will be running a Simultaneous Pairs event.

The same hands are played and scored up across all participating clubs across the country with a written commentary available at the end of the session.

This event is run by the EBU in support of English Bridge Education Department, which works to encourage more people to take up bridge, especially young people.

Mark the date in your diary and come and play.

In addition to this newsletter our Bridgewebs site includes up-to-date information, including the bridge calendar, duplicate results, teaching schedules, and other information. https://www.bridgewebs.com/roehamptonclub/  the link can also be found under the Bridge section of Roehampton Club’s Members’ website.

Finally, if you are going away in the next few weeks, have a lovely holiday and I hope the trains, planes and weather behaves well for you!
