Founders Trophy 2023

The Founder’s trophy is a two-session competition which was played over two Mondays – 6 and 13 February.

Congratulations to the winners Henryka and Peter Bonnor-Moris who will represent Roehampton Club in Surrey’s Mary Edwards Cup.

In second place was Viv Harris and Paul Ambrus and in third place was Kate Manners and Jeanette Reid.

Well done to all three pairs.

Turkey / Syria Earthquake Appeal

During the week beginning Monday 17th April we will play our duplicate session as part of a Sims Fundraising Event (simultaneous pairs).

The same hands will be played at Bridge clubs across the country and there will be commentaries on the hands for each day which will be posted on the site when the results go live – this may be the day after the event.

Last year during our fundraising week for Ukraine we raised nearly £600, and we thought this Sims event would be a fun opportunity to do something similar, alongside other bridge clubs.

Table money will be £4 as normal and this will be donated to the fund along with additional voluntary donations by those taking part.

Do you have children / grandchildren interested in learning to play bridge?

Bridgewebs

We have signed up to the Bridgewebs platform which is a website designed specifically for bridge clubs. It has many features including an easy to access calendar, access to results, current news and much more. (You will still be sent your duplicate results via pianola).

It is a live system so as well as including our regular fixtures, matches, etc it will also show when the Bridge Room is in use for other activities such as teaching sessions. This will be helpful for those who organise match fixtures. This is a work in progress and more content will be added in due course.

WhatsApp Partner Finder

I am pleased to note that the WhatsApp partner finder group has sprung to life (after being introduced about six months ago) and new and erstwhile members are starting to make use of it to find partners.

If you would like to find a partner for bridge and don’t really know the regulars, then this is a good way to introduce yourself to other members in a similar situation and book some dates.
