Bridge Blog

I hope you are managing to stay cool in this hot weather, one place I can thoroughly recommend which is cool, airy, and air-conditioned is the bridge room!

Drinks reception for Paul Mendelson and Tristan McIllroy

Monday 25th July 5pm, following the Duplicate

We are holding an informal gathering to show our appreciation and say goodbye to Tristan who will be leaving Roehampton Club in September and to Paul who is moving to South Africa on a semi-permanent basis. (Though he will be back to do some Friday mornings in November)

The drinks reception will take place in the Garden Room immediately following the bridge duplicate.

All are welcome but please confirm your attendance to julie@juliebacon.plus.com

Devonshire Cup

Congratulations to the Roehampton Club team of Malcolm Bricknell (Captain), Philip Howard, Peter Bonnor-Moris, and Ralph Evers who retained the Devonshire Cup after beating a strong RAC team in the final last week.

Malcolm Reports:

‘It was a very tight contest throughout as we were ahead by 370 points after 14 boards and edged up another 170 in the second half. Good, focussed play all round by our team playing against a pretty good RAC team (RAC Morgan). A special mention should go to Philip on the night for two good doubles that netted us 300 and 500 points respectively and made a big difference.’

RAC Friendly Match Away 12th July

The Club team of, Linda Major, Linda Wareham, Julie Bacon, Kate Blake, Sandra and Gordon Fox, Myles and Ellie Elliott didn’t manage to prevail against another RAC team the previous day and lost by 11 imps despite being plus 27 after the first half.

It was a very pleasant evening though and we were well looked after by a very hospitable RAC team!

Supervised Practice

Just a reminder that Loulou and Arnold are taking a well-earned break over the summer and supervised sessions will return on Tuesday 13th September.

Inge Hopkinson

Some of the long-term Members will remember Inge, who I am sorry to report passed away on 15th July at her home in Barnes. Inge was a member of the Bridge, Golf, and Croquet sections. Some of you may also know her daughter Katherine Tamlyn who is also a Club Member.
