Happy New Year and I hope your Christmas was Merry and Bright!
I cannot believe we are in the year 2023 – sounds like a date from a science fiction novel.
Anyway, our pattern of bridge duplicates returned from 2nd January 2023, and we also had an extra event – an afternoon of Rubber Bridge on Saturday 7th January. This was a new initiative to gauge interest, and it seemed to be well received. Seven pairs turned up and why wouldn’t you on such a cold rainy and miserable afternoon!
The consensus was that it would be good to have this session on a regular basis and there is no reason why we can’t. It is just a question of people signing up so that everyone knows there are going to be others turning up to play and it is important that if you subsequently need to cancel, you cross your name off the list in good time.
The usual format is to play one rubber then call table up. If there are an odd number of pairs then there is a good opportunity for the sitting out pair to have a cup of tea and a chat – all very relaxed.
I have posted a sign- up sheet on the bridge board in reception for this coming Saturday 14th January and included an overview of the scoring as a reminder for those who are a bit rusty.

This is our annual individual competition. Everyone plays as an individual so no need to come with a partner. Please sign up on the bridge noticeboard in Reception.

Founder’s Trophy
This is played over two Mondays – 6th and 13th February, 1.30pm
To qualify for the trophy, you must play with the same partner for both those two dates.
(But you can still play in the duplicate if you aren’t playing with the same partner).
Hurlingham Cup
Thursday 23rd February, 4.30pm (Home)
6 pairs required- Experienced
£20 match fee to include dinner.
