Roehampton Club Golf / Bridge Day – Friday 4th August

Liz Dodds reports –

All 28 competitors met in the Club Café for coffee for a quick briefing before the first tee time at 8.50.

The weather was kind to us, we stayed dry for all the 15 holes and played a fourball bowmaker.

Golf was followed by lunch in the Piano Bar and then the teams’ bridge commenced at 2pm.

It was a relaxed and fun day finishing with drinks in the bar!

We were delighted to welcome Members who had not played in the competition before, and that the day was so well supported.

The overall winners were Danny and Sally Gesua, Liz Dodds, and Val Patten.

The joint runners up were Gunilla and Kristoffer Huldt, Jane Peel and Caroline Williams and Ginny Gotla, Viv Harris, Peter Bonnor-Moris and Keh Smith.

Many thanks to Danny for all his support and organisation of the teams’ bridge that ensured the day went without a hitch. Also, thanks to Matt Fidler, Golf and Games Assistant and Ollie Sunda, Functions Administrator for their contributions.

I understand a good day was had by all – congratulations to the winners and the runners-up!

Monday 4th September – Simultaneous Pairs

At our Monday duplicate we will be running a Simultaneous Pairs event.

The same hands are played and scored up across all participating clubs across the country with a written commentary available at the end of the session.

This event is run by the EBU in support of English Bridge Education Department, which works to encourage more people to take up bridge, especially young people.

Make a date in your diary and come along and play.

Pippa Lyons

It is with great sadness that I share the news of the death of Pippa Lyons, who passed away peacefully at the Royal Brompton Hospital on Sunday 6th August. Pippa was a long-term Member of the Club and a regular at Monday afternoon duplicates.

Our sincere condolences go to Pippa’s husband Derek and family. Details of the funeral arrangements will be posted in due course.
