Backgammon blog

Live backgammon has returned with a bang across the world as Covid-19 concerns ease. The sale of backgammon boards during lockdowns saw a huge increase in numbers. Backgammon has also resumed very successfully at the club.

The London Clubs League has decided to just play friendlies this year and then resume the normal league structure for 2022-2023. So far, we have played three matches, beating East India, losing to the RAC, and drawing with the Union Club. Far more important than the results has been the resumption of convivial evenings with backgammon players across the capital.

The Tuesday afternoon online sessions proved so popular during lockdown that we have kept them running even though live play has resumed. They take place every Tuesday from 4pm to 5pm.

Teatime Backgammon, hosted by Gill Bray every Thursday afternoons from 4pm to 6pm, has seen good numbers every week since we resumed live play and provides a good starting point for many Club Members.

Club Nights, which provide a mix of tuition and tournaments, is held on the second Tuesday of each month from 7.30 pm onwards.
The very popular Croquet/Backgammon event returns after a two-year absence on Tuesday 12th July.
Please make a note of that date in your diaries as it won’t be long before registration opens.

For readers of The Times please remember that Chris Bray writes a backgammon column every Friday. You can find it in the Puzzles section of the newspaper.
