Backgammon Report

Sarah Adlam was known to many of you before her untimely death last year from Covid complications. For many years she had been a member of the RAC but then moved to Roehampton and joined our Club. She represented the Club many times in the London League. She was one of the few people I knew who had played backgammon for more years than myself!

For the last five years we have played a backgammon/golf match against the RAC with golf in the morning and backgammon in the afternoon, separated by an excellent lunch. There has never been a trophy but now Sarah’s family have donated a cup (see picture) for this year’s match and which will be played for annually between the two clubs in memory of Sarah. The cup was in disrepair when the RAC received it but they have kindly paid for its restoration and I think you will agree they have done a very good job.

In this year’s match at RAC Woodcote Park, Roehampton Club won both the golf and backgammon sections and so we are now the proud holders. The trophy will shortly go on display in our trophy cabinet on the first floor of the clubhouse.

The RAC gave us tremendous hospitality for yesterday’s match at Woodcote. We will return the favour next year.

My thanks to Hassan Dajani for the organisation of the Roehampton Club team. The full team was:

Hassan Dajani
David Moss
Peter Bonnor-Moris
Chris Bray
Tony Taylor
David Fellows (golf only)
Gill Bray (backgammon only)

The teams are shown together in the photos below.
