Masterclasses

There will be a new Soft Pastel Masterclass with Kathy Barker for Beginners and Refreshers from Thursday, 16th June to Saturday, 18th June

The new Masterclasses are proving remarkably popular; students are finding that by spending three consecutive days in a class of up to eight people focussing on one medium and aspect, they are improving their technique significantly.

We plan to continue to organise Masterclasses at the end of terms. I am delighted that Wynona and Peter Hollam have agreed to take over their organisation, along with Sarah, so we have a new sustainable team.

We have just emailed the Art Group announcing a new, fun three-day Soft Pastel Masterclass designed specifically for beginners and refreshers from Thursday, 16th June to Saturday, 18th June

The class will be taken by Kathy Barker and will include sketching en plein air, around the garden pool and croquet lawn, weather permitting.

I must apologise that classes have become fully booked so quickly after being announced; so phone reception on 020 8480 4200 (option 4) or visit them to express your interest. The three-day masterclass will cost £150, excluding lunches.

If you have any questions about the class, please email artgroup@roehamptonclub.co.uk

Art Group Lecture

The next lecture will be in the Club at 8pm on Tuesday 17th May and is the last lecture before the summer break.

Paintbrushes at Dawn:  the World’s Greatest Artistic Feuds, Rows and Quarrels

The late Christopher Hitchens, who knew a thing or two about feuds, once wrote that a first-rate bust up requires one of at least two things:  a clash of strong personalities and a conflict of principles.

The history of art is peppered with first rate bust ups. Between the great early Renaissance artists, Brunelleschi and Ghiberti, between Constable and Turner in the early 1830s and between Salvador Dalli and the Surrealist leader, Andre Breton in the 1930s

They tell us a great deal about key issues in art history

There is no need to book; just come on the night; enjoy the new 85” HD screen; the lecture is free for Art Group members and £10 for guests
