2021 Art Lectures

The next lecture for your diaries is A Provocative Beauty – The Art of Grayson Perry by Frank Woodgate taking place on Tuesday 20th April on zoom at 6.45 for 7pm. 

Grayson Perry, who won the Turner Prize in 2003, is close to becoming a ‘National Treasure’. His beautiful, finely-crafted pottery, which frequently has a sting in the tail, and his colourful, imaginative and often amusing tapestries are enormously popular in the fine art world.

Initially considered as something of a rebel, he is now an acknowledged member of the Establishment. He has exhibited in the British Museum and the National Portrait Gallery, was appointed a Royal Academician and delivered the Reith lectures for the BBC in 2013. 

In this lecture, we will look at his work in some detail, as well as considering his cross-dressing alter ego, Claire, and his fondness for his childhood teddy bear, Alan Measles.                                 

The lecture is free on Zoom for all Art Group Members.

Summer Term 2021 Art Classes

Summer Term Art Classes will run on zoom for five weeks from 19th April to 21st May.  Now is a great time to join, whether for the first time or to improve your skills.  

Our tutors, Kathy Barker and Shaun Carey, have lots of experience working with students at all levels and you’ll enjoy learning and building your skills.  I know you’ll have a warm welcome not only from them, but also from a friendly group of fellow students.

Discovering Watercolour with Shaun Carey

Mondays 10 am – 1pm or 2 – 5pm
19th April – 17th May

Tuesdays 2 – 5pm
20th April  – 18th May

£75 for five sessions. 

Life Drawing with Kathy Barker

Wednesdays 10 am – 1 pm
21st April – 19th May

£75 for five sessions.

Beginners and Improvers Drawing and Painting with Kathy Barker

Wednesdays 2 – 5 pm
21st April – 19th May

£75 for five sessions.

Painting in Acrylics with Kathy Barker

Fridays 10 am – 1pm or 2 – 5 pm
23rd April – 21st May

£75 for five sessions.

Book via Reception

Booking is currently open for Art Group Members; all Club Members will be able to book from Monday 5th April. To make your booking, please call Reception on 020 8480 4200 – open daily between 10am and 5pm. Alternatively, email Reception_Main@roehamptonclub.co.uk with your phone number and they’ll call you back.  

Reception will take payment and ask for you to confirm your email and that you are happy for us to use it to communicate in relation to classes. The closing date for all bookings is Wednesday, 14th April.
