Update on Development Projects

Refurbishment of Indoor Social Areas

Tenders are out with four reputable interior fitting companies at present and due to returned shortly for a report and recommendation to be made by the Project Manager to the Board on 28th November.

Once selected the contractor will start the works on 6th January 2025. The Working Group is visiting furniture supplier showrooms next week to finalise decisions on furniture and the carpets.

Bar Terrace and wrap-around decking extension

Four companies have tendered for this contract which we have tendered separately to the main internal refurbishment contract. We are completing some ecology and biodiversity net gain reports for the Council this month and we expect to receive planning permission in December so that the works can start before Christmas. These works will be scheduled to be completed alongside the above works and both works are due to finish at the end of April 2025.

Indoor Golf Centre

The Project Manager, Sports Clubhouses Ltd, has started on compiling the tendering package which will be completed by the end of January. Tenders will be returned in April for the Board to evaluate what options it has to proceed. These options will be sent out in a survey to Members and we will be in a good position in May next year to inform Members on the Board’s decision. In the meantime we await the decision from Wandsworth Council on our application to erect a safety net next to the 1st tee to prevent mis-hit golf balls from landing on the golf practice ground and the new IGC building. This fencing will also protect the contractor staff while doing the works allowing the course to remain open throughout the construction period.

 14th Hole Safety Fencing

We have received planning permission to erect safety fencing on Ibstock Place School’s land to protect school children from mis-hit balls from the 14th tee. In agreement with the school we are looking to start the woodland clearance works in the February 2025 half term week and then install the fencing in the Easter 2025 holidays when the school is closed.

Outdoor Gym

We are expecting a decision from the Planning Officer on our request for an Outdoor Gym on the Lime Tree lawn by the 22nd November. If approved, we will look to install in January 2025.

Art Exhibition

I was pleased to attend another successful Art Exhibition Dinner earlier this week with the exhibition opened by opera legend Sir Thomas Allen who had entered three of his own works from the classes he attends here. The standard of paintings by our Members and their Tutors is very high.

Please come and see for yourself in the Clubhouse, Reading Room and the Health Club and if you feel inspired please sign up at Reception for the various classes starting next January in the Art Studio.

Annabell Fuller golf clinic and Q&A

Living With and Beyond Cancer Programme at St George’s Hospital

The Living With and Beyond Cancer programme is a series of projects focusing on support-specific symptoms and challenges that patients may face when undergoing cancer treatments as well as when recovering from cancer treatments. These include work workshops to help patients suffering from side effects of cancer treatments as well as tackling other aspects that can affect their mood and relationships with their family and friends. Most of the programme is charity funded, so they are very reliant on the generous contributions from the public to help support people going through their cancer journey and help patients live well with cancer.  Dr Jason Chow, Lead Oncologist at SGH, has given several talks here for Members this year and his team has partnered with Pure Sports Medicine to offer a diagnosis service to Club Members. Please contact PSM on 020 7787 7000 to book an appointment if required.
