The top eight clubs in the country will battle it out in a knockout competition over the weekend on the American clay courts at West Hants Tennis Club. All Members are welcome to come and support the team.
Tennis court surfaces update
The resurfacing of our Smash Courts 4-6 was successfully completed so that they will drain well during the upcoming winter. We also resurfaced acrylic court 10 as a trial trying to improve its bounce and firmness. This was partially successful, so our contractor has undertaken to resurface courts 7-10 with a better acrylic compound (plexipave) in the summer holidays next year at their cost to ensure we have the very best surface for all our teams and general Member play.
Grass courts 19 – 24 will be closed from Monday 9th September for their annual renovation. Courts 25 – 28 will be closed from Monday 16th September for their annual renovation ensuring that both sets of grass courts are ready for play from the beginning of May 2025.
Men’s Golf Scratch Team in Surrey Knockout Final
Our men’s first team, captained by Scott Stanley, has reached the prestigious Scratch Team knockout final aiming to be the best club team in Surrey. We play Hindhead GC, champions multiple times, and lost in a final before against them but want to go one better this time. The neutral venue is to be decided and the match will be played on Sunday 29th September.
Success at the Pickleball English Open
Congratulations to Charles Bowen Rayner who won 4.5+ Gold in Men’s Singles and Sophie Cockell who won 4.5+ Bronze in Women’s Doubles at the English Open held in Telford last month. This is the highest level amateur event and a fantastic result for our Members. Louis Laville reached the quarter final stage in three events in the Elite category losing to the eventual winners from the USA.
