Chief Executive’s Message

Gold Challenge Cup

It was good to witness a very impressive performance from Tour Professional Hannah Screen in posting two 69’s to win the trophy this year with Hyun-Ji Kim also playing very good golf in the challenging winds to post two level par 72’s as leading Amateur.

Click here for a full report by Caroline Scallon from the Gold Cup Committee.

The Men tried to match the scores the next day on the same course with David Birn and Mike Hamblin shooting 74 as the lowest scratch score and the Centenary Putter was won by Ralph Evers for the best net score of 73. Well done to everyone for as very high standard of golf throughout the weekend.

As it is The Masters weekend look out for our special promotion in the Members Bar on Saturday evening and Sunday evening.

Social Scene for spring

I’m delighted to report that our evening with Matt Frei considering if 2024 is the year that democracy dies, over dinner is now fully booked with a waiting list in operation. Slightly more light hearted but still very competitive is our Curry and Quiz Evening on Wednesday 15th May. Join fellow Members for a delicious curry and an evening of friendly rivalry with myself as Quizmaster.

The trees and flowers around the Club are busy setting a spring scene for another evening of friendly Member rivalry, this time on the croquet lawns. Book now for the Cocktails and Croquet evening on Friday 17th May. Coming up first however is a guided golf course walk with Peter Bradburn, Course and Grounds Director. Join Peter on Wednesday 17th or Thursday 18th April at 10am and discover local nature, how the Club encourages wildlife on the estate and how the golf course is maintained and improved for the future. This one-hour walk is weather dependent and there’s no charge but please book at Reception or give the team a call on 020 8480 4200.

Japanese Bistro Menu

This week sees the start of a new Bistro Menu on Thursday and Friday evenings and over the coming weeks we will be treated to a Japanese-inspired menu with cocktails to match, or, bring your own wine for a small corkage fee.  Book your table at Reception or give the team a call on 020 8480 4200.

Late golf booking cancellations policy

We have recently seen a large number of late cancellations of tee time bookings. As a Club with a large golfing membership, golf tee times are highly coveted, and late cancellations deprive other Members of the ability to make last minute bookings. The Golf Committee has therefore approved a new late cancellation policy, in line with the policy of other sports sections at the Club.

From Monday 22nd April, if you have booked a tee time and no longer wish to play, the booking must be cancelled at least 24 hours prior to the tee time. Although there will be exceptions for changes in course status, illness and inclement weather, if the booking is not cancelled with at least 24 hours’ notice, the Lead Booker will receive a strike. Three strikes in a two-month period will result in a two week ban from booking a tee time and five strikes in a two-month period will lead to a month-long ban from booking.

The Golf Committee will be informed of any Member that receives 5 strikes. The Golf Committee’s recommendation will be that the Member shall be put forward to the Board’s Disciplinary Panel for consideration of a suspension from playing golf at the Club for a period of time.
