We are in the process of finalising several of the sub-committees, which will be ratified at the June Board meeting but I can confirm the continuation of the following:
◊ Finance Committee will be chaired by Henrietta O’Shea
◊ House Committee will be chaired by Andrew Walker
◊ Environmental Committee will be chaired by David Burditt
Actions from AGM – Development Projects Update
As outlined at the AGM the Masterplan 2035 is under continual review and after a Covid-enforced period of lower capital investment we are now looking closely at the new investments we want to make over the next three years.
We will be conducting a survey to allow for Member input into several exciting projects the Board would like to prioritise. Four areas discussed at the AGM and to be included are :
Indoor Golf Centre (IGC) and SGPA
The Board approved plans for the new Indoor Golf Centre and Short Game Practice Area (SGPA) were very well received when presented at the Club’s AGM on 22nd May. We are now scheduled to meet with Wandsworth Council for a pre-planning meeting on 27th June to discuss the new building and layout taking into account its impact on Metropolitan Open Land.
Golf Committee Chairman Niels Verbeek has outlined the plans in more detail here.
Tennis Hub
The knock-on effect of moving the golf retail to the IGC means we can upgrade the Sports Shop into a Tennis Hub for improved tennis retail, racket restringing and for interaction with all the Tennis Professionals on how to improve your game.
Desire to invest in the Clubhouse and Member Experience
Building on the success of the recent Club Café refurbishment, the House and Property Development Committees are looking at what can be improved with the Bar, Piano Bar and associated deck areas. The desire is to create a larger, more welcoming space, taking full advantage of some of the views overlooking the wonderful gardens and golf course.
Clubhouse Changing Rooms
We recognised in 2019 that the Men’s and Ladies’ Changing Rooms needed a facelift. The plans were put on hold due to Covid so they are being reviewed once more to see what works can be afforded and phased into the next three years.
Sports and Section Committees
I am pleased to report that more Cups are on their way to the Club trophy cabinet.
Firstly the Men and Ladies Squash Teams retained their National Club titles in Sheffield two weekends ago. I was there cheering them on as the standard was superb and the tension tremendous as our women won well and our men squeezed through against Surbiton. Click here for details.
Both teams will now represent UK in the European Championships in September in Germany.
