Chair’s Message

Congratulations to Ricky Pharo for being awarded the status of Advanced PGA Professional.

This is a very well-deserved promotion within the PGA and reflective of the high standards he shows on leading his team of PGA Professionals.

Congratulations also to Member Nick Goddard who has just been given the Pietrogrande award by the World Federation of Haemophilia in recognition of his lifetime’s achievement in haemophilia.

This award happened in Buenos Aires and Nick accepted his award on zoom on behalf of his team at the Royal Free Hospital.

Lift update

On the ongoing works front, we hope to have the new lift ready for use by the end of May. Sadly it wasn’t feasible to finish the work by Monday’s AGM but I hope that will not be a deterrent for any of you coming to the AGM.

New Directors and our AGM

The AGM takes place on Monday 22nd May at 7.30pm and I hope to see lots of you there. You will be asked to ratify the election of three new excellent Directors – Oliver Milton, Emma Neate and Anne Wilkinson plus the re-election of Henrietta O’Shea, Chair of the Board’s Finance Committee.

Farewell

This is my last message as Chair. I am very grateful for the opportunity to have served as a Director for six years and as the Chair for the last year. It has been a pleasure to work with a great Board and a dedicated and superlative management team who work so hard for the Club and who have provided invaluable support during my 12 months as Chair.

Martin Lock and Charles Shiplee retire at the same time as I do and I would like to thank both of them for the experience, dedication and commitment to the Board over the last six years. I know I speak for all three when I say that we shall miss being on the Board.

Earlier this year, the Nominations Committee recommended that Michael Hill should succeed me as Chair and the Board endorsed this recommendation. Michael’s appointment has already been announced and will be ratified by the new Board at their June meeting. I am confident that Michael will be an excellent Chair.

New Honorary Members

Other than the AGM next week, one of my last duties as Chair was to join our Honorary Members at lunch this week and to present the impressively framed certificates to our seven new Honorary Members, who have completed 50 consecutive years of adult membership.

John Bartley Melvyn Harris-Taylor
Janet Cohen Caroline Proddow
Dilys Foreman Nicola Pyne
Neila Hardwick

We have 82 Honorary Members and 47 were able to be there for lunch on Monday. The Club has four Honorary Members who are aged 100 or older and it was lovely to see two of them (aged 100 and 104) and a further six between 90 and 99 at the lunch all sharing fond memories of their time here as Members. Tony Salem responded on behalf of the Honorary Members kindly commenting what good shape the Club is in and encouraging Members to use the new Club Café Bistro with its excellent new menu by Chef Lloyd and his team.

Best wishes,

Vivien Harris
