Chief Executive’s Message

Dear Member,

Gold Cup Golf Excellence

Last weekend saw the opening of the summer golf season at Roehampton Club with the playing of the Ladies’ Gold Cup and the Men’s Centenary Putter. Full reports are available in this edition but I wanted to thank in particular Peter Bradburn and Head Greenkeeper David Howe and their team for presenting the course in tip top condition despite the very heavy rainfall on the days before.

We were the only local course open on Saturday and the competing Pros in particular were singing our Club’s praises for such a well presented course in early April. This was echoed by the men on Sunday as they struggled to match the tournament record score of 10 under par for 36 holes by European Tour Pro Ana Dawson playing the course for the first time.

She managed only three practice holes on Friday before everyone’s practice rounds were rained off. Her two 67’s and the 68 shot by amateur Matilde Santilli (16) from Foxhills were superb.

No-one from the men broke par on Sunday on the same course but an excellent net 67 by Jo Cochrane won the Centenary Putter trophy – read more in the Men’s Golf Captain’s Blog here.

Works around the Club

The solar panels have all been fitted on the roofs of the Club’s buildings and a full report of the anticipated savings to be generated is contained in the Environment Committee’s report by David Burditt. Please click here for full details.

The two Airhalls have been dismantled as per the planning conditions we abide by and Courts 7-10 will now have the finishing touches applied to them by Trevor May Ltd to ensure these four new acrylic doubles courts are ready for summer use.

The first and second team matches will be programmed on these courts for Members to view. As these acrylic courts are not porous but have a slight fall on them, the Grounds Team will squeegee off any water before use and will leave a squeegee for Members to use if required between showers.

We are continuing with the drainage work in the Piazza and in front of the Health Club to ensure we capture water resulting from heavy rainfall in those areas. Once that is completed the contractor will work on repairing the paved areas in the sunken gardens leading up to the padel tennis courts and croquet lawn 4.

Happy Easter to all.
Best wishes,
Marc
