Chair’s Message

It was lovely to see Alan Scott back at the Club on Saturday presenting the Alan Scott Trophy and congratulations to the winner Stephen Jones with 40 points. We were all very grateful to Peter Bradburn and his team for presenting the golf course on Saturday with no temporary greens.

Top up your levy and view the balance

I am pleased to report the team has added new functions to the Members’ ESP Elite Live accounts via the Members’ website. As well as booking Social Scene events, dining tables, fitness classes, courts, coaching and overnight electric vehicle charging, Members can also top up their Levy account and review their spending via the Members’ website and their ESP Elite Live account page. This gives Members easier access to their levy balances and produces monthly statements of expenditure.

Indoor Golf Centre and Short Game Practice Area

At last night’s Board meeting Niels Verbeek (Chair of the Golf Committee), Ken Moodie (our course architect) and Steve Macdonald (Sports Club Houses-our designer) presented the latest exciting plans for the IGC and SGPA. The Board endorsed the proposals and thanked the team involved for all their efforts and hard work to date. The Board also considered recommendations for an additional protective fence to stop stray golf balls from the 14th tee being hit into Ibstock Place School. Work has been ongoing by the school to erect a fence around the climbing wall next to the 14th tee and we await further information on how this is going to operate.

Solar Panels Installation and Club House main doors

The installation is on-going with contractors working on the Club House and Health Club this week. The installation is complete on the Grounds Building. The team will then finish with the Studio, Squash Courts and Sports Hall buildings. We are pushing for a mid-March finish at the latest.

During the recent cold spell it was obvious to anyone using the main entrance that there was considerable loss of heat through the sliding doors. The Environmental Committee will look into means of minimising the heat loss through these doors.

Club Café and new Bistro

Thank you for your patience while we work on the Club Café refurbishment. I am delighted to report that the work is largely on schedule and we anticipate re-opening in the week commencing Monday 20th March. Most of the new equipment has been installed and this week the new floor is being laid. We have encountered a few delivery problems with the new furniture coming from Europe and are waiting for a confirmed March delivery date.
Those of us present at Wednesday’s excellent Call My Bluff evening had the opportunity to try some of the superb dishes we will be serving as part of the new bistro menus on Thursday and Friday evenings.

Club House Lift and ANPR

Work on replacing the Club House passenger lift will start in early March. A temporary stair lift will be installed on Tuesday 7th March . The work is anticipated to take eight weeks.
The introduction of the automatic number plate recognition system (ANPR) for the Members car park is progressing and your car registration numbers are being input into the system so this will speed up your access to the Members car parks at the front and rear of the Club. Please still bring your membership cards to use within the Club though please.

Chair of the Board of Directors

I have greatly enjoyed being Chair of the Board for the last nine months but as I will have completed my six year term on the Board this May, the Board needs to appoint my successor.

Last night the Nominations Committee recommended that Michael Hill should succeed me as Chair and the Board endorsed this recommendation.

Michael’s appointment will be formally announced at the Club AGM on 22nd May and ratified by the new Board at their June meeting but I wanted to share this news with you now.

Many of you know Michael from his sporting achievements at the Club and / or through his very impressive work in the local community via Rackets Cubed.

I am confident that Michael will be an excellent Chair.
