Introducing the Club's new herb garden

This week the long-awaited herb garden has also been completed by the gardens team.

It was a request from Ray Thompson, Executive Chief, for the Club to have an aromatics area in the estate to allow him and his team to pick fresh produce for his dishes. The planning for the area started last winter with the construction of a raised bed system ready to plant out this spring, after the harsh weather had passed. This area was allocated by the children's playground, which previously was a disused rose bed. It is hoped that it will also serve as an educational feature for younger children to learn about food and culinary skills with their parents. The beds are split between three levels and contain different soil types to account for the diverse requirements of the species chosen. Planting took place this week and Ray and the team are delighted with the results. 'It's a great asset to have something like this on site' Ray commented, 'it will reduce waste in the kitchens as we will be able to take only what's required per day'. Steve, Head gardener, Kate and Ian of the gardens team have done a great job and I hope that everyone will enjoy their efforts.
